which is better?

Which is better walk in or appointments, i'm a new barber and i'm trying to work in appointments and walkins, it seems unfair for someone to just walk in a shop and go straight to the chair when u have people who have waited 1 hour or more, so how do u work this out? I also think u should have an appointment for designs because they take time.

I can respect your thought on that bro, and it is truly about the client. My thoughts though is, how unfair is it to you that someone wont help you structure your day more effectively by making appointments. Imagine if you were booked solid for 2 weeks in advance. Your money at 3-4 cuts an hour x $15-$25 per cut equals out to be $360- $800 a day you can lean on. At that point walk-ins are the icing on the cake, if you have time to squeeze one in. I started my clientele off of walkins and stressed to them the importance of making an appointment to insure that they are able to recieve services from me the next go round. Knowing that every Wednesday at 3:30 I have "John" to cut, makes things for me easier because I know my money and I can schedule appropriately if it is a design or color.

I work better with a appointment based business,i know what i can do in a certain amount of time and keeps regular customers happy that they know they get there cut when they want.
But walkins are the bread and butter and will always make you extra cash and thats what its all about..

Gift and Curse

Postby Theallstarimage on Tue Sep 16, 2008 12:30 pm

Our shop has a walk ini system. We have a barber who does nothing but cut walk-ins...Appointments are good and great for shop bragging rights but it can cause problems when you want to grow or like right now with the economy slipping causing the door stops swinging. You can get a bad reputation for not being able to service walk ins and walk-in will go elsewhere. Our shop has experienced the gift and the curse of being busy with appointments. It hurt our growth in the beginnings because we lost alot of walk in business since we could not service them. Tip: Have a walk-in barber on duty at all times to help with the over flow and folks of customers who are not picky and want to get in and out.
