Pricing Debate

Describe a dramatic incident that happened in a barber shop

Pricing Debate

Now I work at a shop and really want to get a feel for what others may think. At our shop in Dallas we had been at $10 dollar for years. I have been there for 9 years and it has been $10 for that whole time. We finally convinced the owner that we should go up to at least $12. Every shop around us is at $15+. So with that being said at $12 we are still the cheapest in town. The issue is the $8 Tuesday  we have been doing for years. Every barber in the shop feels that has to go. Not really go but put up some limitations. I say for new customers only. :) What is happening is that on a day where you would cut 20 heads for a minum of of $240 +, ( I say minimum cause we charge for extras like shaves, parts, and things like that) so at a minimum of $240 you end up making $160 loosing $80  of revenue. Now I dont know about the rest of the nation but we are past a recession and bout to go into a depression or even a damn suicide  . We get so mad cause what is going on is these cats are coming to the shop wanting these extreme cuts and parts and shaves for $8 and wait till after the service to say I only brought $8 cause its Tuesday. We have tried the whole tell them the prices before you do the service but yall know how slick the customers are. Especially when they were there last week and someone else did it for them for free. We are loosing at least $4 a cut and sometimes up to $10 to $15  a cut and that adds up. We are getting upset cause people are taking advantage of us on those days cause its not as if they dont have it. I say that cause as they wait they go next door to the barbque place and spend $8 on food. ( By the way he just canceled his 99cent chopped beef special  ) Anyway the owner claims thats his way of giving back. :? I think that can be HIS way of giving back and we will choose how we decide to give back. We even asked if we could go up to $10 on Tuesdays to at least slow the bleeding. Considering we are independent contractors  he cant really regulate what we charge but we try to stay on 1 accord. Some barbers are talking about not coming on Tuesdays at all. Me included 8). True $8 is better than no dollars but come on  . We work pretty dang hard for our license and TDLR in Texas aint no joke :x . Keeping your license in Texas is just as hard as getting it :? . Whats yall take?
