Tips

To my fellow African/Black American Barbers....we cannot stress enough the about stereotype "that blacks do not tip". We have to encourage our people to tip. We work hard for our money and we do not do this just for the sake of doing..We have to let our customer know how much it means us and that we appreciate serving them. Maybe it's me but we have to get out of that get over mentality. We are always trying to get over on each other than support each other. Tipping is so important to our business....pass it on..

Tips for barbers

Postby BarbersOnlyMagazine on Tue Nov 25, 2008 5:55 pm

Good point. I used to get real upset if client didnt tip when I was a younger barber. It doesnt bother me now because most of them do and I try to offer extra service. These extra services (razor line, hot towel) almost always leave a satisfied client who doesnt mind giving a little extra. However, I have been in cities where the clients never tipped. It was more of a mentality they had. If you happened to live in one of those areas it's hard to say how to get people to start tipping. One way might be to put up a little sign that says, "Thank you for your patronage, tipping is not required but definitely appreciated!"
Good luck
